I just read the Samaritan's Purse official "statement of faith" (having taken the link given in Jonathan Merritt's article concerning the pop up medical facilities in Central Park) - and my god is it harrowing...

Two of their tenants expressly state the importance of believing that those who are not Christians will suffer "eternal punishment" - as if it's not enough to bring "good news", this cruelest form of thought terrorism is a mandated part of the package as well.

And this coming from an organization who proclaims themselves as "Doing The Most Good".

While the volunteer medical staff working under Samaritan's Purse are sincerely giving their time and potentially sacrificing their well-being (which is truly heroic), I'll always feel an aversion towards this cognitively dissonant mixture of altruism and misanthropy that's characteristic of many religious "non-profits."
